Professional Association of Hungarian Criminal Investigation Officers

Our association was founded in 2004 with the aim of contributing to the modernization of law enforcement and legal regulations in Hungary, researching criminal sciences, assisting law enforcement officers in their work to increase the effectiveness of law enforcement and crime prevention and, through this, enhancing public order. We place a high priority on the protection of children and young people and the prevention of the victimisation of the elderly. To this end, we cooperate with public, civil (NGO) and business organisations, as well as other associations and federations that help our association to operate effectively and accept our objectives and our statutes.

Our priorities:

      to continuously review the legislation governing the activities of law enforcement agencies, gather experience from a wide range of professionals, explore potential amendments to legislation, draft and provide professional support for amendment proposals, and represent these proposals before the appropriate legislative body;

      to assess and monitor conditions that adversely affect the work of law enforcement agencies, investigate the underlying causes, and provide assistance and support to improve these conditions;

       in the field of criminal sciences research, we set research priorities, primarily in forensic and field of criminology; we explore new methods of measuring the effectiveness of investigative authorities, ensuring the quality of law enforcement, and improving evidence of certain crimes, while promoting interdisciplinary cooperation;

       to establish contacts with national and international law enforcement and crime prevention agencies, learn about their working methods, explore the potential for adopting certain methods to increase effectiveness, and explore the possibility of closer cooperation and links to enhance law enforcement, crime prevention and public safety;

     to provide an opportunity and platform for discussing national and international professional experiences and achievements;

      to support and promote the academic activities of law enforcement students, encourage their research and the publication of their findings.

Let us cherish the memory and preserve the achievements of Police Colonel Dr. János Dobos. Pol. Col. Dr. János Dobos (1937–2003) was an outstanding contributor to 20th-century Hungarian forensic science and a senior lecturer at the Police Officers’ College.

On the 75th anniversary of his birth, we established the Dr. János Dobos Prize, which is the highest professional recognition awarded by our association. It is presented every two years.

The Dr. János Dobos Memorial Medal was established on the 10th anniversary of his death. The gold, silver and bronze medals represent the second level of professional recognition within our association and are awarded according to a strict set of criteria.

The scientific and professional journal of our association is ' Magyar Bűnüldöző ' which was first published in 2010. The journal features articles that deal with issues related to law enforcement, the legislative aspects affecting the field, and analyses and evaluates social deviance and law enforcement challenges from the perspective of criminology, forensics, criminal sociology, criminal law, law enforcement, and, in the spirit of interdisciplinarity, state and legal science.
